The Principal Judge, Hon.Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija has made a courtesy call at Ibanda Chief Magistrates court

The PJ shortly interacted with some members of the DCC including the Deputy RDC, OC Nyabuhikye Prisons, OC Police and the Assistant Resident State Attorney who all commended the good cooperation, coordination and effective communication by the Chief Magistrate, HW Yeteise Charles.

The CM informed the PJ that Ibanda is yearning for at least a session from the one last held a year ago by himself while still a Resident Judge in Mbarara. "My Lord, one of our judicial officers disappeared from station without any notice. We need another Grade one deployed here" the CM said.

The PJ later visited Kiruhura Chief Magistrates Court where the Chairman LC 5, Rev. Mugisha Samuel Katugunda, expressed urgent need for finding alternative court premises in order for the people to access justice easily.

Court users move long distance to come for services here.

The same concern was raised by the Grade one Magistrate, HW Toloko Simon, together with HW Kamukama Fortunate. The Magistrates also cited lack of enough staffing at the station.

The challenge of court users moving longer distances comes after the Kazo Court was evicted out of the community hall from which court used to operate two days in a week.

The PJ said, the purpose of his visit was to identify manpower gaps, looking at their facilities and getting any other of their challenges. He promised to work hand in hand with inspectorate of courts and Eng. Ebal, to find a possible solution to accommodate Kazo Court.

The PJ also appreciated HW Yeteise for managing Ibanda Court well, including keeping the archives orderly.
